Proverbs 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.

This verse teaches that the believer should favor the condescension of God rather than our abilities to summon His favor. Earlier in this chapter we find that God detest the sacrifices of the wicked and the way of the wicked. Why? The reason being is that their confidence was in themselves. Pride had welled within the people and they were impressed with themselves. The issue is the heart. The wicked here are those who claim to know God through external activities of obedience to the law but having no love for the law Giver. The wicked have more confidence in their ability to reach skyward rather than God’s favor in His condescension towards sinful man.

We all have to guard against such disaster. The heart of man is not naturally bent upwards toward God. But, God in His love looks down on His beloved with favor. God in Christ has purchased you sinner. You have done nothing to deserve God’s favor. This should produce humility within your heart. We should covet the condescension of God! Do you not know that God reached down to touch your heart because you could never have reached up to grasp His?

Let me leave you with three thoughts to drive your prayer.

1.       Pray and thank God for who He is. Not what He has done but for who He is.

2.       Pray and thank God for what He has done. Meditate on His words and works.

3.      Pray and ask God to produce greater humility within your heart.

Have faith that God hears the prayers of the righteous. Have confidence that God is waiting to interact with you through prayer and the reading of His Word.
