Revelation 5:12- "Worthy is the Lamb" Revelation 5:12 “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” Jesus Christ is the Lamb that is infinitely worthy. His greatness is exceedingly immeasurable. The human mind can scarcely fathom the limitless value of Christ. His infinite worth means that there is nothing that can compare to Him and there is nothing out of bounds when comes to the praise that is due Him by His creation. His infinite worth means that He will be infinitely praised. Jesus Christ will be forever the object and subject of praise. The church will forever praise the Lamb because no amount of praise could satisfy the worth of Jesus! Jesus Christ is the Lamb that is intrinsically worthy. Performance is often the method of attributing worth to persons, objects, places; etc. However this method is subjective and selfish. An example would be the “eye of the beholder” type view on beauty. Jesus Christ is not to a have His worth evaluated upon His performance alone. Jesus Christ is, in and of Himself worthy of this praise. The power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and blessing all describe who Jesus Christ. He is the source of all power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing. By intrinsic worth I mean to say that the Lamb is to be praised for who He is in and of Himself apart from any doing. His doing is the source of our thanksgiving. Jesus Christ is the Lamb that is intentionally worthy. Jesus is the creator of all that exists, both seen and unseen (Col.1:16-17). Jesus is the Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8). Jesus gave His life for the church (Eph.5:25) and the resurrection of Christ secures all believers of all time for all time. None are lost. Why? For worship! Righteousness was given for the wretched. The precious Lamb of God freely, willingly, quietly, and unashamed took the penal punishment for sin though He knew not sin for the redemption of the unrighteous. Another point to see concerning the intentional worth of Christ is found in His resurrection. Notice the doxology sings of the Lamb who was slain, past tense, to receive power and riches and wisdom. . . The dead do not receive anything. Jesus is alive! His power far exceeds the power of death, sin, and Satan. The entire thing is rigged for His glory and our joy! Jesus Christ is the Lamb that demands worship and praise. He died for worship. He died for you. He overcame for you. He is infinitely, intrinsically, and intentionally worthy of all worship. So it is here that we give all praise and thanksgiving to the Lamb that was slain for us!
